Kelly Slater
Born: February 11th, 1972 as Robert Kelly Slater
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 160
Stance: Regular
Kelly Slater is the best competitive surfer of all time. In all reality, the man was born to surf. Hailing from the warm waters of Cocoa Beach, Florida and sponsored by Quiksilver, the leader in youth lifestyle clothing, since he was 18, he has gathered an unprecedented eight ASP World Championships since his entrance on the world tour at age 20. He is the epitome of a natural and his accomplishments are staggering--equal to that of a legend. In 1992, he snared his first big Pipe Masters win, and in 1994 Slater buried his head in competition going on a rampage that covered both the WCT and the WQS. By the end of that year, he walked away slamming the door with the Pipe Masters again. 1995 found a kid named Kelly Slater winning the event at G-Land, and taking control of Hawaii with his first Triple Crown Win, edging out Rob Machado in one of surfing's most memorable moments. His win at Pipeline now gave him three championship victories at one of the world's most breathtaking barrels. In 1996, Slater decided he'd just golf his way to victory. After another blitzkrieg start, he seemed to meet his match in the dazzling form of Shane Beschen. Convinced that the answer lie not in the lineup but on the golf links, Kelly immersed himself in this seemingly unrelated pursuit and began dissecting his surfing using techniques applied to whacking a little white ball. With this new approach, Kelly crushed the competition and launched his successes toward the green, leaving Beschen and the rest of the field in the woods. His seven event wins of that year (in just 13 starts) tied an ASP record. Driven by the death of friend Todd Chesser, Slater resolved to win another world title in quick fashion in 1997. With a renewed focus, he smashed four of the first five events and cruised to crown number five. Again, with Slater so far ahead of the competition he had to find another way to keep entertained. That year he even put together a band, The Surfers, with Rob Machado and Peter King. Together they created an album and went on another kind of tour. In 1998, the Slater who showed up was a different person than the surfing machine who had set out to conquer the world. He'd shaved his head bald, and while he looked more intense, he wasn't. This Kelly wanted to hang out with friends and just surf. By mid-year, he was floundering at fifth in the ratings. For Slater to have any shot at winning, the leading duo from Down Under, Mick Campbell and Danny Wills, had to fail miserably at Pipe. They did, and Kelly crafted another masterpiece heat against Machado in the quarters to nudge past them for the gold. Coming out of retirement in 2001, Slater renewed his tour card and found that the surf and surfing were much improved. One devastating near miss and two half efforts later, he was on the verge of surrendering his dynasty to Andy Irons. However, fate intervened and Kelly found his groove in the barrels of the South Pacific. Given what Slater overcame, numbers seven and eight had to be the most satisfying. Being the youngest world champ proved he had natural ability, but being the oldest is a testament to his true genius. Kelly's creativity and fluid style are probably the most overlooked aspects of his surfing and his life. In his sport, he has redefined and revolutionized performance in all conditions. Tail slides, carving 360's, air reverses and Rodeo Clowns - he either invented or reinvented them all. Kelly has not only changed the sport forever but has also broken the archetype of the surfer through his professionalism, attitude, looks and character. Currently on the WCT searching for his ninth world title, Slater also hosts his own radio show on Sirius Satellite Radio (channel Faction 28). He is a true champion considered by many as the most influential surfer in history.
Dane Reynolds
Born: September 7, 1985 in Long Beach, CA
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 160
Stance: Regular
Sponsors: Quiksilver, DC Shoes, Monster Energy, Channel Islands Surfboards, Boost Mobile, Komunity Project.
Dane Reynolds spectacular and creative surfing has made him one of most popular pros in the world. He has lived in Southern California his entire life; although not always surrounded by the beach lifestyle. Born in Long Beach, the family moved northeast, and Dane spent a majority of his younger years landlocked two hours inland in Bakersfield. After a summer vacation trip to Ventura at age 8, Dane’s friend introduced him to surfing. Dane’s focus then turned to convincing his parents to move coastal. Moving turned out to be an easy sell to his parents who enjoyed the beach community, and within the year Dane moved to and continues to reside with his family in Ventura. Within a couple years of the move, and a complete dedication by Dane to spend every minute of daylight in the water, he was competing and winning contests at an amateur level. Watching Dane surf is incredible. He's constantly banging out new-fangled, futuristic aerials that often leave onlooker's jaws agape. He boosts over the lip on nearly every wave, throws insane 360’s and is exciting beyond belief because you never know what he has planned next. The bottom line is that this young man is dangerous. Dane blew everyone away in the X Games in 2003 and 2004, taking home the Highest Single Wave Score both years. In 2004, ASL magazine chose Dane to be the recipient of their annual “Next Big Thing Award”. At the 2004 Trestles stop of the World Championship Tour (WCT), Andy Irons dubbed Dane as being “The Best Free surfer in the World,” after finding himself defeated by the youngster in their man-on-man heat. And he thoroughly impressed Slater on the Young Guns boat trips, winning "Tube Ride of Year" at the 2005 Surfer Poll and Video Awards. How heavy is that? All the attention and acclaim hasn't swelled Dane's head or made him cocky. He's a quiet, humble, friendly and reserved kind of guy. Dane’s eager to join the WCT, but he plans on doing it at his own pace. The past few years Dane’s focus has been on surfing select contests while concentrating on his first signature film, “First Chapter.” With the release of Dane’s movie, he was rewarded by the surfing community with 2006 Surfer Poll awards for Male Best Performance in a Video, as well as the prestigious Surfer Poll Award for Video of the Year. With his groundbreaking video parts in Quiksilver’s Young Guns and Taylor Steele movies, Dane has climbed into the top 5 on Transworld’s exposure meter for all the hard work he put in over the past couple years. With his popularity being at this all time high world wide, Dane has switched gears to contest mode for 2007’s World Qualifying Series. Keep a close eye on Dane throughout 2007 as he travels the globe on his quest to qualify for the 2008 World Championship Tour.

Jeremy Flores was born in Madagascar and grew up on Reunion Island. Surfing every day since the age of 3 under the guidance of his father Patrick Flores, who over the years has played a major role in Jeremy’s development as a competitive surfer. Jeremy and his family have spent long periods of time in Australia on Sydney’s Northern beaches, whole summers in Europe and notched up a string of seasons in Hawaii, not to mention a whole range of amazing surfing venues visited by this worldly young surfer all the time maintaining his academic commitments through correspondence schooling. This fairly unconventional upbringing has enabled Jeremy to experience life in different countries and cultures and has helped him to feel totally at ease on the World Tour. His career and personality are exceptional in more ways than one. Jeremy is not only the youngest surfer ever to break into the professional elite of world male surfers, but he is also the only European in the Top 45 of the Foster’s ASP World Tour traditionally consisting mainly of Australians, Americans, Brazilians and South Africans. Has this left Jeremy feeling slightly isolated? It doesn’t seem so……Jeremy kicked off the 2007 season with an impressive 9th place at the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast, Australia, setting the tone for what was to follow……..eliminating 8 times World Champion Kelly Slater at the Billabong Pro Teahupoo Event and then finishing 3rd at the Boost Mobile Pro at Trestles. At the beginning of the Quiksilver Pro France 2007 Jeremy’s ASP World Tour Ranking was 9th. Nowadays Jeremy spends a lot of his off time at his new house in Cap Breton France. It has been the testing ground for many of his boards that he has developed over the years with his shaper Mark Phipps. The Jeremy Flores surfboard model is the result of years of research and development undertaken during Jeremy’s growth years – in terms of his physique, surfing abilities, and maturity. The Jeremy Flores model is a high performance board catering largely for the needs of those seeking to advance their surfing to a more extreme level and pull off more critical maneuvers. Being of a highly driven nature and a very passionate competitor he is showing the world that he plans to make a long and fruitful career out of competitive surfing. Jeremy is, without a doubt, well on his way to fulfilling his ambition of becoming a World Champion surfer.

He weighs in at less than eighty pounds and stands at less than five feet tall, but don’t let these deceiving physical characteristics fool you. Luke Davis is a wild eyed monster in the ocean, and has been really brought the hammer down on the National Scholastic Surfing Association as of late. Through his accomplishments, he has started to rack up quite a trophy collection with 1st place engravings on them. And over the past year, the media and industry alike have begun to keep a watchful eye on every move this young California kid has been making. Throughout 2004 and 2005, Luke tore up the competition earning accolades as both the Ripcurl National Champion in the under 12 division, and the champion of the NSSA Western Mini Airshow. He also placed second in the NSSA Western Regionals, and gained the honor of becoming a USA Surf Team Member. In 2005 and 2006 young Davis raised the bar even further, placing second in both the Ripcurl Nationals, under 12, and the Surfing American USA Championships, under 14. Keeping in line with his winning attitude, Luke also placed fifth in the NSSA Nationals Explorer, Menehume, and in the NSSA Nationals, Open Boys. By the end of 2006, this young phenom grom was rated number 8 out of the Hot 100 Surfers in Surfing Magazine. And he capped it all off with a huge win, as he became the NSSA Western Regionals Open Boys Champion. Over the past year, in between school, his 4th annual trip to Oahu’s North Shore, and his hectic contest schedule, Luke has been filling up his passport with stamps while working on a movie with filmmaker, Brian Jennings. This onscreen endeavor has already taken him to the lush areas of South Africa, Fiji, Indonesia and Australia. With his polished, fluid style, and high performance maneuvers, Luke has a style that has been compared to the legendary Tom Curren by peers, pros and media alike. He has caught the eye of many other top ranked surfers including three time world champion Andy Irons, who has mentioned Luke to be the cream of the crop regarding young upcoming talent in the water. With all the pressure that you would think goes along with statements like that, Luke is still a kid out of the water. He has the tremendous love and support of his parents to help guide him. And whenever home, he eats doughnuts every morning, spends much of his time with his friends and brothers, skateboards in the cul de sac in front of his house, and mainly just enjoys being a 14 year old boy. The only differences between Luke and the average 14 year old boy you know, is that Luke surfs better, and is probably on a plane right now to Fiji for the second time in a year.

Roy Powers
Born: January 9th 1981
Resides: Hanalei, Kauai
Height: 6¹0²
Weight: 170 lbs.
Stance: Regular
Roy's from the fertile surfing grounds of Hanalei, Kauai and grew up with his friend, mentor, and three time World Champion Andy Irons. The diversity of waves on the island provided the perfect training ground for the now renowned surfer.
He's grown up seeing what success in the surfing world has brought his neighbors, and Powers is ready for his share. His climb up the ASP World Tour has been slow and steady. Ranked ASP WQS 123rd in 2002, Powers finished 71st the next two years before catapulting to 9th on the ASP WQS in 2005, which gave him the chance to compete on the ASP World Tour in 2006. In 2006 and again in 2008, Roy qualified for the prestigious WCT tour fulfilling every pro surfer¹s life long dream.
Although his rookie season did not provide the sensation he hoped for when he finished outside the Top 27 and failed to re-qualify, his persistence paid off in 2007 when he won the ASP WQS 6-Star Prime Reef Hawaiian Pro on a day with the largest surf the event had ever seen. His near perfect scores guaranteed him a spot on the ASP World Tour in 2008 where he'll take another stab at surfing amongst the world's elite ' something Power's doesn't take for granted.
Roy is as charming and charismatic as a pro surfer comes. He travels the world with his beautiful girlfriend and is quick to greet everyone with a smile. These qualities have made Roy a favorite amongst his peers and community. Roy is an intense and savvy competitor who is consistently a tournament favorite in competitions throughout the world.

Alek Parker

Resides: Melbourne Beach, FL
Height: 5¹11²
Weight: 155 lbs.

"Professional surfers can be pretty narcissistic - palms out, eyes shut, always asking what a company can do for them instead of the other way around. Which makes it all the more refreshing to meet a young man like Melbourne Beach, FL's, Alek Parker. As a writer, a surfer, and a friend, the thing that strikes me most about Alek is his acute awareness of his time and place in the sport, often choosing to reflect the attention he's given to that which spawned him - the waves and surfing community of the East Coast. Following a rather high-profile amateur career, Alek immediately charged professional surfing's gates with enthusiasm to spare - relocating to Southern California while still a teenager to take full advantage of working and traveling with the area's lensmen and the international, national, and regional surf magazines that publish their images.
In less than 12 months, Alek's been published in no less than a dozen different travel features in five separate magazines, including mag trips to Indonesia, Israel, the Caribbean, Nicaragua, Panama, and Italy. Not to mention, he won the Red Bull Tow-At at the WQS 4-star Globe Sebastian Inlet Pro, was selected as the event's posterboy for 2008, and holds the distinction of winning the "New Creativity" award at the inaugural Red Bull Illume Image Quest.
He continues to employ unique attention to detail and formed his own video production company, 321 Entertainment - and released "The Best Laid Plans".
In my years as editor of Eastern Surf Magazine, I have yet to meet an individual more committed to maximizing his own raw surfing potential, while properly exhibiting what the East Coast has to offer in terms of surf, stoke, and character. Whether spinning one of his trademark backside stale- fish airs, helping carry a video guy's extra baggage in torrential tropical downpours, or singing promo posters halfway around the world, here is one person who very much appreciates his place in the surfing spectrum and obliges that by giving back just as much as he receives. If not more." - Matt Pruett, Eastern Surf Magazine, Editor
The next generation, now in progress.
